The Smash Burger is one of this summer’s biggest grilling hits! Its popularity lies in the flavor from browning and the quick cooking time. We’re making the Poppamies Chili & Cheese Smash Burger – easy to make and guaranteed to taste great!
- The name Smash Burger comes from the patty, which is cooked by smashing it against a hot cooking surface. This creates a deliciously browned crust. For Smash Burgers, choose the fattiest ground beef available – 20% fat is ideal.
- Form four 100-gram meatballs from the ground beef. No kneading needed – just shape them lightly. Heat the grill to high, around 250–300°C.
- Place a griddle or pan over direct heat. At Poppamies, we like using a cast iron griddle. Close the grill lid and let the griddle heat up thoroughly.
- Place one meatball on the griddle and smash it against the surface using a wide metal spatula.
- If you don’t have a suitable spatula, you can also smash it with a small stainless steel pot. Keep the patty pressed against the surface for about 10 seconds to get a good sear.
- Once browned, flip the patty and sprinkle Poppamies Burger & Ribs Rub or Texas Beef Rub seasoning on top.
- Add two slices of cheddar cheese on the patty and close the grill lid.
- Toast the bun halves briefly on the grill until crispy.
- Spread Poppamies Habanero Ketchup on the bottom bun, add a few pickle slices and pickled red onion, then place the patty on top.
- Squeeze some Poppamies Barbeque Majonen on the top bun and place it over the burger.
- Feel free to try other Poppamies RUB seasonings, mayonnaises, and products – you’re sure to find your own favorite for Smash Burgers!
